  YHWH another pagan god

  i have read several post in the past that claim that yhwh(jehovah) is of pagan origen.

  i never bothered to research this until now.

  can someone give me some info?

  the JWs use a ...."SMOKESCREEN" ....very different but very effective. They have also been known to use "mirrors"....

  "..pay no attention to that man behind the curtin...!"

  What do I tell my children?

  i have four kids - ages 18, 13, 10 and 6. .

  first some clarification: i have been in the "truth" for 35 years, and although i have never been particularly active in the ministry .

  for example: my 18 year old son really wants his ear pierced.

  I have 3 children; and although I do not have the same issue as you ( my kids are not raised JW) I am always honest with them

  My advice is to "level" with them ; call a family meeting and tell them that you no longer believe it. And involve them in a search for a new faith ( if you feel it necessary). But above all else, thell them that THEY no longer have to adhere to the teachings of the JWs.

  I learned how to be "...sly as a serpent and innocent as a dove..."

  and being a Jehovahs Witness taught me how to be "slick" with "political role playing" ( and I do not mean elected officials)

  JW False Teachings About Roman Catholics

  when i left the troof, i happened to learn many of the things i had been taught about rcs were lies.

  i thought it would be interesting to see how many jw false teachings about rcs we can list.

  I attend the family mass with my wife kids. My wife grew up a very liberal Catholic; from experience I can say the the Catholic faith is a very caring community. Although I do not believe any of its doctrines; I can see that they have done some good in my community and the world.
  

  They have their problems; especially the pedophile issues which everyone is repulsed by and is demanding the REMOVAL and outcasting of the convicted priests; bishops; anyone who contributed or conspired.

  But by and large they have accepted me ( an unbeliever) as a non Catholic. I am not shunned or excluded. They think it is fine that I accompany my family to services, without partaking.

  They have Catholic charities which helps homless and those less fortunate irregardless of religion.

  No one I know in this community accepts any church teaching as infalible; much less the Pope. The religion is more of a social order than a religious one.

  The Catholic church encourages secular education and the Jesuit order of priests has one of the finest secular educational facilties in the American Culture.

  Platonic Friendships....

  there are some conflicting views on this subject; when i was a teenage jw i was friends with someone of the opposite sex and we were the best of mates...nothing sexual, no attraction in that department at all but it was frowned upon by those in the congregation (as you can probably imagine).. my ex wife never believed a man and woman could be just platonic...hence no longer with her...but..now being somewhat older (and a teeny bit wiser .

  what do you think though, do you think a man and woman can be just friends and more importantly has this view been changed since leaving the jw's?.

  ...after leaving the JWs I had developed a platonic relationship with a girl in college. Being a virgin I still had my JW teachings driving me and I did not "put the moves" on her. After a year of this "platonic friendship" ( like having another "sister" around) she asked me point blank if I was gay; I answered "no" and her response was " why dont you want to sleep with me?" . And we did.

  The relationship changed. We no longer had that "friendship" quality; and as "lovers" the relationship did not survive

  This happend a second time with another girl with the same results.

  This is a very different type of relationship than asking a girl on a date and pursuing her; or having her pursue you. The basis of the relationship is different and subject to different dynamics.

  I have come to the conclusion; based on MY experiences, that girls and boys dont get on well as just platonic "friends". It turns into something physical.

  Assemblies suck

  didn't it drive you up the wall how, after a long week of working or going to school, you had to spend your entire weekend at an assembly?

  the saturday and sunday that you could've spent catching up on some yard work, or even relaxing was wasted away by sitting in a bunch of chairs, listening to stuff you've heard many times before.. i know this used to drive me up the wall.

  it felt like i had absolutely no time to myself during these weekends.

  I remember all those long international assemblies; having to sit for all those long hours; torture for a kid. When i was younger my parents would let me color and draw pictures ( 12 hours ! a bit too long to sit there) As I got older I was expected to " pay attention". Child abuse.

  on the brothers last talk he was talking about how we should be good host.

  like abbrahan was to the angels anyways..... he went on saying that some brothers in other countries have the elders deal with their financial neeeds it sounded that they give the money to them and they share it among the congrecation.

  he then went on saying that if the governing body would ask us in this country to do that what would we do ?

  ...I suppose they would even drink "cool aid" if asked.....perhaps they all remember Jim Jones British Guayana..those were all loyal worshippers....
